what r your thoughts on this topic? remember the key word is biblical duties/responsibilities. If possible please use scriptures to justify your position. opinions (traditional and contemporary) are not doctrine. If u don't know the chapter and verse it's OK post anyway. This one should be Iinteresting !

Obviously, a husband's duty is to provide for his household. While I can't find a Scripture for this, take note that Abraham was a rich man, able to provide for his entire household. Job, likewise, was a Godly man and he was very rich and was able to provide for his own. We don't know how they got their wealth, but we know that they were not poor.

In 1 Timothy 3:2-4, we read the description of a bishop, but I think, this can apply to every Christian man as well! "A bishop must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence"

Many people think Proverbs 31 describes the duties of a woman, but actually it contains a comment about the man as well. It says, "Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land." (Proverbs 31:23) So, the duty of a husband is not only taking care of his own household, but he should also take care of his community and at least show up when it's time to vote.

Jumping to 1 Timothy 3:11, it talks about the wives, "Likewise their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things."

My hope with this thread is to cover this topic as much as possible from genesis to revelation.

If we start with genesis, we see that in

genesis 2:15 god put adam in the garden to work it and keep it.

genesis 2:20 god wanted to create a HELPER for adam

genesis 3:16 god punished the woman by

Increasing her sorrow in child birth

Her desire became toward her husband (no need to say t that if that was already her desire )

demoting her......

Her status went from helper of her husband to being ruled over

Adam was punished also ....basically he went from easy garden work to heavy duty labor

This is by no means is the ending point of this thread.......please give me your feed back on these verses .....then we can move on to the next husband wife scenarios that appears in the word of god

Biblical duties of the husband and wife?

First that comes to mind is: to have sex. Marital intimacy glorifies God (which is why Satan would seek to prevent it...) Celibacy is for unmarried people.

Here's Paul for you (since you asked for reference):

"The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control."

You are absolutely correct......that is exactly what the Bible says.......what are your thoughts about the roles that he gave to the husband and the wife as their punishments.....I hope this thread will become one of the most informative threads a believer has read on this topic if we can go through the Scriptures from beginning to end and get input on each scriptural reference about marriage roles/responsibilities/past examples. etc

thanks for all input

Here is a great list of books that I would recommend:

MEN should read several of these as it is YOUR role to TEACH doctrine to your wife and children throughout marriage.....so you better be able to discuss it intelligently from the WORD. Women, look for men who have read on doctrine and can discuss it intelligently. If you are dating a man who hasn't, get him a couple of these books to read and if he doesn't want to then that tells you that he isn't ready for marriage yet...for he doesn't want to be a spiritual leader. I'm tired of reading about married women complaining about their husband not being a spiritual leader. Do something about it. Don't marry men who haven't read much on theology at all and you won't end up with one like that. YOU can control that in who you choose to marry. If you choose to marry one who hasn't then he most likely never will be a spiritual leader and you have no one to blame but yourself. Don't pawn it off on....oh, I just thought he'd grow into one once married...that is illogical. Most people don't change much once married,

unless you marry very young. Can you live with his leadership and knowledge as it is now for the rest of your life? If not, don't marry him until you are satisfied with what you see. Women should read a few books on theology, too....to show yourself knowledgeable on doctrine, too. While you are single, NOW is the time. Prove yourself to your future spouse NOW! that you take marriage and God seriously by reading and being able to discuss in depth about God and the Word of God. YOU have NO EXCUSES! Children, by the time they are 18 should have been required to read several off of both of these lists.

I find it really interesting that we will study years to get a job to earn money for life, either single or married, and yet we don't study much at all about how to have a godly marriage and keep the marriage strong by understanding much about the opposite sex. As a result, many Christian marriages don't differ too much from non-Christian marriages, even though

we have the truth on our side, the bible, and many intelligent Christian authors who have spent the time breaking it down and surveying men and women and their attitudes and desires. So why don't we hear this being preached in our churches? Why don't we incorporate this as a normal part

of our youth Sunday school classes and bible studies? Why don't we have discussions between boys and girls about each others likes and dislikes and what God has to say about it? So, where do most of our kids end up getting their beliefs from? From either bad examples they see in the home

themselves, or from our public schools which don't do it justice at all, or from TV. There are some good examples in the home, but that is far and few between. If you have that desire to make your future household different from the one you grew up with, God-willing, start studying now. Also, as a

result of the above, we end up teaching our kids that it is just fine to go through boyfriend/ girlfriend, one after the other, to try them out and see what we want. What kind of logic is this? We should first figure out what we should be looking for and then look for that type of person through friendship first, and let it grow from there. AGAIN YOU HAVE NO EXCUSES NOW for the type of Godly marriage you can have...All you need to do is to require yourself and any potential spouse to read some of these. The following is a list of marriage books I own..I have read all but about 2.
