It is impossible for an unbeliever to commit anything that could be considered unforgivable in any sense as their concept of sin is unformed and there is no Biblical justification for such a charge. There are however a number of people who contend that a blasphemy against the Holy spirit is unforgivable in a saved believers life. The question really is; is it possible for a saved believer to do such a thing? What is your opinion?
Revelation 13:11-18: The I saw another Beast coming out of the *EARTH*{The False Prophet}. He had 2 horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon {a deceptive liar like Satan}. He exercised all the authority of the first Beast {666} on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast {666}, whose fatal wound had been healed. And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come from down from heaven to earth in full view of men. Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast {666}, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth.
He ordered them to set up an image {Or statue} in honor of the beast {666} who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. He was given power to give breath to the image {Or statue} of the first beast {666}, so it could {Miraculously} speak and cause all who refused to worship the image {Or statue} to be killed. He also forced everyone to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast {Nero Caesar?} or the number of his name {666}. This calls for wisdom. if anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is a man's number. His number is 666.
Revelation 22:16,18,19: "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to give you this testimoney for the churches..I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. If anyone ADDS anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book {Including eternal hell} And if anyone TAKES WORDS AWAY {Like the Preterists and Historicists} from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of Life and in the Holy City {The New Jerusalem}, which are described in this book!"
Revelation 14:9-12: "If anyone worships the Beast and his image {or statue}and receives his mark on their forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be trormented with burning sulfur... and the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image {Or statue}, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name. This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus!!"
So their will be *SIX** unpardonable sins during the 1260-day Great Tribulation immediately before the 2nd coming of Jesus!!
{**1**} Worshipping the Beast
{**2**} Worshipping the image or statue of the Beast
{**3**} Receiving the name of the Beast on your forehead
{**4**} Receiving the name of the Beast on your hand
{**5**} Receiving the number of the Beast's Name on
on your forehead **666**
{**6**} Receiving the number of the Beast's name on
on your hand **666**
And after Revelation was written by John in AD 96 there were *TWO* more *UNPARDONABLE SINS which were in effect until the 2nd coming of Jesus as per Revelation 22:18,19 above!!
{**7**} ADDING WORDS to the prophecies in Revelation
which were inspired by the Holy Spirit
{**8**} TAKING WORDS AWAY from the prophecies in
in Revelation which were inspired by the Holy
Spirit!
There is possibly a {**9th**} UNPARDONABLE SIN as per John 14:21,23-26 and John 12:48 which will be those who Reject Jesus and refuse to accept His words which were inspired by the Holy Spirit who will continually remind us of His Words!
John 14:21,23-26: Jesus says, "Whoever has My commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him...If anyone loves Me, he will obey My teaching. My Father will love him, and We will make Our home with him. He who does not love Me will not obey My teaching.
All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you!"
John 12:48: Jesus says, "There is a Judge for the one who rejects Me and does not accept My words, that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the Last Day!"
I think we need to take into consideration what does it mean when the sin is unforgivable? Does it mean the person can never receive grace, nor can never as the term says, go to heaven?
Or, does it simply mean they have committed a sin that they are going to be punished for despite the fact they have been born again?
Plus we need to consider the timing of the sin? Can an unsaved person commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? I do not think so because without the Holy Spirit one cannot blaspheme against it!!!
I will give you an example of what I consider to be blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and the resulting punishment that came from it.
In this case it was the a man who God put on my path while I was a prodigal son trying to find my way back home but the journey was not easy. During this time this man helped me significantly albeit there were things he did against me that seemed to reflect a jealous spirit despite the fact he was also the man who in front of many witnesses baptized me in a small lake in South Carolina where most people would look at and say, you walk into a lake like that in South Carolina you must have faith.
Anyway:
I soon surpassed this man concerning knowledge of the things of God, and the more I studied the more this person rose up against me and started publicly saying things that were most unkind such as accusing me of being a false prophet. Then when there were some signs and wonders following he went so far as to go to my ailing father and told him that his son was one of the end times false-prophet the Bible speaks of. His words and actions hurt me but in time I would get over them and would continue to pray for him.
His actions taken against me were noted by others and one time while I was explaining to a group of brothers the importance of understanding the wave offering following the feasts after the males of Israel were required to appear before the Lord, he said how he had never heard of such a thing and then mimicked a little dance while waving and mocking me as he did it.
I instantly knew he had gone too far and after the meeting broke up I told a friend of mine that he could mark my words but George was now going to see what happens when you mock God. After all God allowed His Son to be crucified and most of the Apostles to be martyred, but mocking God by blaspheming the Holy Spirit cannot be done without taking a significant risk.
Long story short within a very short time he was arrested at a Walmart distribution center after making a scene in which he said they were to give him a lot of expensive PA equipment for free because he had been appointed by God to make some public announcements that everybody had to hear. He ended up being committed to an institution, and I felt bad for his family as well as did everybody else. I did more than just feel bad and on one particularly hot South Carolina afternoon I went and weeded out his entire vegetable garden. While doing so a neighbor of his came up to me and made a comment how everybody had seen my former friend in his true calling of being a false prophet because of all the things he said that no chance of ever coming true.
Going back to God's law we see that the required punishment for a person that makes false accusations against somebody is the same thing that they trying to falsely accuse a person of, is the punishment that is administered to the false accuser. In this case my friend had for along time falsely accused me of being a false prophet, but in the end God's law was fulfilled as everybody saw him to be the false prophet he had accused me of being.
Now does this mean my former friend is never going to rest in the bosom of the Lord? Not only do I hope not but I also think not because the nature of Jesus is love. Therefore, I believe when after my former friend fulfills his sentence coming down from a divine court, he will be restored onto the community of God albeit his former position of be a minister of God is forever lost. For sure, it is far better he fulfill his sentence in this life so he may go to heaven when he dies.
This is the way the laws of God work because they were not meant to just punish someone, but were carried out so in the end the victim was restored any loss they suffered while the perpetrator not only was punished but in the process learned the relevant necessary lesson. Then, when the sentence was completed they were restored to the fullness of the community.
My friend never repented but has been released back into the public, however, his health has done nothing but go downhill leaving only a shadow of his former self that I will never forget as the man who helped me in the beginning of my walk.
God is not mocked, and IMO this is an example of an unforgivable sin causing punishment to come to the offender, who when all is said and done will be restored onto the family of God
*** Yes!!!...Yahshua...aka Jesus said and it is written...
Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Mat 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
A relevant question is IMO can someone who has not been given the Holy Spirit commit blasphemy against it?
Being as Mat 12:31 says.... "ALL MANNER OF SIN AND BLASPHEMY SHALL BE FORGIVEN UNTO MEN
.But then in the next verse the words of Jesus appear to contradict what he just said?
Because God is not the author of confusion we need to find an answer that does make any part of the Bible to contradict God !
To try to explain my point is IMO those who are without excuse because they have been given the Holy Spirit are held more accountable.
God punishments (other than death) always had a maximum limit attached to them the same way how the word "eternity" does not mean time without end but means the fulfillment of an age that represents a dispensation coming from God.
Concerning time associated with judgment Jesus said the following....
Luke 12:58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
59 I tell thee, THOU SHALT NOT DEPART THENCE, TILL THOU HAST PAID THE VERY LAST MITE.
Jesus spoke of teachers receiving the greater damnation and the OT speaks of priests who would loose their position with God as far as no longer being allowed to tend to the things of God but only to the matters concerning the people (the difference between priests and high priests)
Eze,44: 10 And the Levites that are gone away far from me, when Israel went astray, which went astray away from me after their idols; they shall even bear their iniquity.
11 Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister unto them.
12 Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord God, and they shall bear their iniquity.
13 And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
14 But I will make them keepers of the charge of the house, for all the service thereof, and for all that shall be done therein.
On the other hand the sons of Zadok who did not do wrong will minister unto God while those who did wrong will loose their preferred status
IMO, in summary and in the next life those "teachers" who messed up will loose their favor before God but not their lives so to speak .......... On the other hand those who did not mess up will continue to remain highly favored.
We are called to become priests but there are differences between levels of priests with only the chosen high priest appearing before God while the others appear before the people only
Paul said of himself "less he become a castaway" was IMO refrencing him loosing high priest status in heaven but not loosing his "time" guaranteed to hiim to be "in heaven".
I hope I have been able to acurately convey the point I am trying to make
restassured has made the following 2 statements which contradict God's Word:
"God punishments (other than death) always had a maximum limit attached to them the same way how the word "eternity" does not mean time without end but means the fulfillment of an age that represents a dispensation coming from God."
"We are called to become priests but there are differences between levels of priests with only the chosen high priest appearing before God while the others appear before the people only."
However, every time eternal life is mentioned in the NT about 40 times it refers to TIME WITHOUT END!
John 3:16: Jesus says, "For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have *ETERNAL LIFE*!!"
Hebrews 4:14-16: Therefore, since we have a **HIGH PRIEST** who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a **HIGH PRIEST** who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have ***ONE*** who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need!!:applause:
Hebrews 7:26-28: Such a **HIGH PRIEST** meets our need--One who is Holy, blameless, pure. set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins ONCE FOR ALL when He offered Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.:applause:
FTI the Greek word for eternity is Strongs# 166 "AIONIOS" that is used 71 times in the NT, and is defined as a duration of an age that is not time without an end because it has an end to it......... and you need to get that through your head so you can finally begin to learn the truth and stop teaching lies about what the Bible says because as I have said several times now for your benefit, teachers receive the greater damnation !!!
Because it is a divine sentence on an individual and is coming from a divine court, it is only for a duration of time THAT WILL BE COMPLETELY FULFILLED BY THE INDIVIDUAL, AND IS WHY JESUS SAID WHAT HE DID IN THE FOLLOWING VERSE
Luke 12: 58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
59 I TELL THEE, THOU SHALT NOT DEPART THENCE, TILL THOU HAST PAID THE VERY LAST MITE. ........
Why do you think Jesus talks about persons not getting out until they have fulfilled their sentence if the sentence could not be fulfilled??? This is why Jesus says for persons to make their deal now while they are still under a dispensation of grace instead of the dispensation of judgement coming after death. (because once a person dies and is resurrected unto judgment the time of grace is over)
Problem is when people like you become teachers but still ned to be taught the basic foundations of the doctrines of Christ has resulted in the church being taken over by false taught by the "tail of the dragon" aka "the prophets who teach lies," a position you are all to familiar with.
NO!!!!!Apparently, the great evil here is to declare before the living Messiah, despite the witness of the Spirit, that he is of the devil. But Y-shua says that the sin is not committed against Him, but against the Spirit, which means that his detractors refused to soften their hearts against the very appeal of God.
I don't know anyone saved because they thought Y-shua was Satan.....
Actually Doug you are wrong again the phrase *ETERNAL LIFE* is mentioned 38 times in the NT and each time it is absolutely clear that it is FOR EVER AND EVER.
Matthew 19:16; 19:29; 25:46; Luke 10:25; 18:18,30; John 3:15,16,36; 4:14,36; 5:24,39; 6:27,40,54,68; 10:28; 12:25,50; 17:2,3; Acts 13:46,48; Romans 2:7; 5:21; 6:22,23; Galatians 6:8; I Timothy 1:16; 6:12; Titus 1:16; 3:7 John 1:2; 2:25; 5:11,13; Jude 1:21
Eternal salvation is mentioned in Hebrews 5:9
Eternal Redemption in Hebrews 9:12
Promised internal inheritance in Hebrews 9:15
Eternal glory in I Peter 5:10
Eternal Kingdom in 2 Peter 1:11
The eternal King Jesus I Timothy 1:17
All of the above are FOR EVER and EVER!!
EVERY TIME eternal is used in the NT it is FOR EVER AND EVER !!
I would say that an unbeliever cannot sin against the holy spirit. I think Paul explains what Jesus was talking about a bit here:
Hebrews 6
4For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.
Someone who has been truly converted and willingly returns their mind to Satanic thinking cannot be "converted" again. It's basically the same treason and betrayal that Satan committed, except with the added offense that you know Jesus and that He was already crucified for and covered your sins.
Someone who hasn't been converted yet, cannot commit that type of sin.
