Matthew 1:18–25 tells the story of the birth of Christ from the perspective of Joseph. This man is betrothed to be married to Mary, but finds out she is pregnant. He does not realize, yet, that this child is Christ, and that she is pregnant by a miracle of the Holy Spirit. God interrupts Joseph's honorable plans to divorce Mary, and tells him through an angel in a dream not to fear taking her as a wife and that the child is from God. Jesus will fulfill Isaiah's prophecy that Immanuel, ''God with us,'' will be born to a virgin. Joseph obeys, demonstrating his faith in God

All four Gospel accounts refer to the baptism of Jesus by John at the Jordan River (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32). Luke says, β€œAnd the Holy Spirit came down in a bodily shape, like a dove on Him.” Because the Holy Spirit is just thatβ€”spiritβ€”He is not visible to us. On this occasion, however, the Spirit took on a visible appearance and was doubtless seen by the people. The dove is an emblem of purity and harmlessness (Matthew 10:16), and the form of the dove at Jesus’ baptism signified that the Spirit with which Jesus was endowed was one of holiness and innocence

Anna, described as a "prophetess" (Luke 2:36; Exodus 15:20; Judges 4:4), is an elderly woman long since widowed. She seems to have spent most of her life praying, fasting, and worshipping. According to this passage, she will notice the arrival of Jesus in the temple (Luke 2:22–24). Shortly after Simeon (Luke 2:25–32) praises God for sending the Messiah, Anna will echo those ideas as she tells everyone the good news (Luke 2:38).

While many of us did not grow up with the Christmas pickle as a symbol of Christmas in our homes, these unique ornaments have become increasingly commonplace.

And yet the origins of the pickle as a Christmas tree ornament remain up for debate.

The Christmas pickle tradition holds that, once the children are asleep, parents will hang a glass pickle on the tree. The first child to spot the pickle on Christmas morning gets to open a special present.

Some people think this odd tradition was passed down fromΒ Germany. Some believe a story about a Civil War soldier who was saved from starvation by a pickle.Β

Others believe St. Nicholas once saved two boys from drowning in a pickle barrel

The man mentioned here is named Simeon (Luke 2:25), the same as one of Israel's tribal ancestors (Genesis 29:33). Over hundreds of years, Israel was given prophecies predicting the arrival of a Savior. This Mashiyach, or "Messiah," was predicted to be the One to win a final victory over evil and to restore Israel for all eternity (Jeremiah 23:5; Isaiah 9:6–7; 40:1–5; 57:18). Simeon is one of the Israelites expectantly longing to see this figure arrive.

christian meaning of xmas decorations πŸŒŸβ›„πŸŽ…πŸŽ„πŸ¦Œ the bad pardon the pun wrap 🎁 fruitcakes don't deserve ‼️

'The humble fruitcake is a dessert that, like the followers of our saviour Jesus Christ, is often despised despite its sweet nature. It is unfortunate, however, that so many feel this way, because in reality, a fruitcake is very similar to any of the human beings on God's green earth.

The brown cake is our flesh, which was originally wrought by god's hands from the dust. Though it is sometimes bitter, it is moist and thick, symbolizing the labor and blood of human existence.

The nuts are little crunchy bits of sin that exist in all of us, since, like the fruitcake, we are made with sin inside of us, and only a higher power can take it out of us - provided we (or the fruitcake) let Him.

The bright fruits represent the joys of life that God gives us to uplift us, like flowers, babies, and puppies. The red cherries are especially important, because they represent the blood Jesus Christ shed to free us from sin.

The entire fruitcake is baked until it has a firm crust, similar to our skin, but possibly more similar to the shield that many place between themselves and God. As we do with the fruitcake, God needs to cut off a slice of us before the meaty insides and beautiful, tasty fruits are exposed to Him. Some people are baked too long, and as a result are impervious to God's love, so their tough skin and blinded minds eventually lead them to eternal suffering in hell, just as many an overdone fruitcakes are subjected to the trash can, garbage disposal or family dog.

So, next time you receive a fruitcake, don't cast it aside with scorn - where would we be if God had done that to us? Instead, enjoy the fruitcake, share it with your friends and family, and remember what it represents - not only ourselves, but the lord Jesus Christ, whose birth is not only the sole, undisputed reason for Christmas, but also the reason that we have fruitcakes today.'

The passage today describes the arrival in Jerusalem of a group of wise men, sometime after Jesus' birth. They are responding to the sight of a ''star'' in the night sky, leading them to conclude the ''king of the Jews'' had been born. King Herod is troubled by this news and sends them to Bethlehem. His deceitful orders are for the wise men to return and tell him where the child is. The travelling scholars are overjoyed to find the Christ, at last. They worship Him by bowing and presenting expensive gifts. Warned not to return to Herod, after all, they slip away by another route.

Story from the Middle ages

The villagers couldn't afford school, so most couldn't read. As Christmas drew near, one family longed to help their neighbors discover the true meaning of Christmas.

"Let's carve figures to tell the story of Christ's birth!" the father, a woodcarver, suggested.

"But the villagers are hungry," his wife pointed out. "We should bake for them."

So the family worked together. The woodcarver whittled, scooping out wood until it formed the shape of an angel. He finished all the figures. Then his wife mixed sweet dough to fill the molds. When the cookies were done, the children decorated them with berries and colored sugar.

On Christmas Eve the woodcarver's family carried the cookies to the village. Soon a crowd gathered. As his daughter held up the angel cookie, the woodcarver began: "Long ago an angel like this one brought us the most wonderful news: 'Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.'"

They recounted the whole story of Jesus' life as they handed out cookies to the amazed listeners. Ever since that night, generations have passed down the art of making Christmas cookies and of telling the story of the true meaning of Christmas

December 20. Read Luke 2:15-20.

Mary has recently given birth to Jesus, in humble circumstances (Luke 2:1–7). Shortly afterwards, a throng of angels announced the birthβ€”but not to kings and scholars. Instead, the angels presented their news to local shepherds. After overcoming their initial terror, these men quickly followed the angels' description and found Jesus exactly as predicted (Luke 2:8–16).
