Sarcasm
Posted : 21 Dec, 2010 06:24 PM

In the OT, the prophets were often sarcastic -- witheringly so. Look at what Elijah said to the prophets of Baal. Ouch. Look at what Elijah said to Aziah: "Is there not a God in Israel..." Ouch. Paul was sarcastic at times, and sometimes polemical -- as was Jesus in human form. "Brood of vipers" and all that.

So, yes, I believe that we can be sarcastic when necessary. Should we always be sarcastic? No. But more than that, do you think that Christians should NEVER be sarcastic?

The "S" Word w/ Your Fiance

Yes, I would. I would discuss it probably a few months before the marriage, just so we could get it in the open and let it settle before we got married. If anything freaked either one of us out, we'd have time to discuss it instead of brushing it away as unimportant.

As a virgin myself, I do have some ideas as to what I'd like or dislike, but some of that gets modified or changed depending on your partner.

You are right. Hot does have a sexual meaning, or at least it goes that way. If some guy tells you that, you know that is not the guy for you.

Yeah, I'm not much of a sweets person in general, although an occasional pie or brownie or bag of sour candy is nice. I only have candy at work to keep me awake. :)

Set a Limit on the Number of Posts Per Forum Per Day

Hmm. I was getting at "new posts per forum per day". Obviously, restricting the number of posts per forum per day wouldn't address the issue.

Yes, bumping the most recently-replied to message to the top would also work. And boy do we need more mods.

Jesus vs. Santa Claus

If left up to me, I would emphasize the good deeds of St. Nicholas (an actual person) and speak of his life in place of Santa and his elves, etc. Santa is not an idol, but more a means for controlling children -- and both are wrong. Children need to learn UNconditional love from their parents, not conditional love.

The reason why this is illegal is because it falls under the concept of protecting "the least of these", which reaches the American law through Blackstone, the great English jurist. That is the reason why porn and abortion was prohibited, as well. The more that you open the door to things that negatively affect the body on a society-wide basis, the more you tacitly condone it.

You can't argue that "I have a conscience and so this won't bother me" while you allow things that you know will plunge your brother into sin. To put it mildly, drugs are a huge stumbling block. Further, if society is having a hard enough time with what is legal, adding additional burdens to it is hardly the answer.

And what happens the day after legalization? Are you ready for the hospital bills?

Are you ready for the fundamental ways that this would change American culture (say, discrimination laws when druggies become a protected class of people)? No-one ever really counts the cost for legalizing harmful substances or their misuse and no-one on this thread has done so, either.

It always sickens me to see Christians advocating tearing off the safety rails, claiming that good drivers won't need them anyways.

Word Per Post Limit
Posted : 18 Dec, 2010 12:51 PM

In some forums, members repost entire articles, which are a pain to scroll through, and are hardly ever read in the first place. I suggest a 1000 word posting limit to prevent people from torturing us with their long and boring articles.

Set a Limit on the Number of Posts Per Forum Per Day
Posted : 18 Dec, 2010 12:50 PM

Currently, some members are abusing the heck out of CDFF by posting 7 and more new topics in a forum per day. This drives other posts to the second page where they stand a much lower chance of being read. Two posts per forum per day should be sufficient. Can we stop people from grandstanding, please?
