I was reading in the bible and considering the topic of 'fornication'. And the question popped into my head, "Would a passionate kiss be fornication?" and then all the potential circumstances started making me wonder about the idea that if 'one type of passionate kiss is wrong, what of all the other scenarios? any thoughts you'd care to share?🙂 Post Reply

Posted : 18 Jul, 2022 12:39 PM I think it's best not to kiss until one is married, after the minister pronounces a couple man and wife, and then states the husband may kiss the bride. Jesus in Matthew 5:28 states that looking at a woman lustfully is committing adultery. I would believe a passionate kiss is worse than just looking, so that would make a passionate kiss fornication, or adultery if married. But a passionate kiss is not as bad as actual sexual intercourse. Some sins are worse than others, as Jesus made clear in John 19:11 when speaking to PIlate. Post Reply

Posted : 18 Jul, 2022 03:09 PM I agree, funny how such things are never discussed from the pulpit - probably because most people would not be happy to hear such a thing. God does not lower his standards, but man thinks he can judge for himself, what is... or is not... acceptable to God. (or more likely - what they think 'should be' acceptable to God 🙄😲😕😬 regardless of what they actually 'know to be' God's opinion and expectation...) Therefore, a kiss is not fornication. This is basic logical deduction... The word fornication comes from fornicati, which is the Latin Vulgate translation of porneia, which is the word used by Paul in the Greek NT. Porneia is where we get the word porn/pornography. Based on the above, it would be easy to argue that sexual activity outside the confines of marriage, including, but not necessarily limited to, porn are viewed as acts of fornication. But back to the OP: A kiss is not sex... Post Reply

A peck on the cheek is very different than intimate and passionate mouth to mouth resuscitation. That already has crossed the limit towards intimacy, that is meant for marriage alone. Just because clothes haven't been removed, doesn't mean there is no sex.. and many people justify their pre-marital sessions by the excuse that their clothes were still on (or, at least most of them). And some countries say there is meaning in a kiss. Of course, Judas kissed Jesus. The father of the Prodigal Son ran out to kiss his son on his son returning home. Kissing may accompany fornification, but of itself is not fornification. However, Jesus said, "But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." (Matthew 5:28) In that, most of us have committed adultery in our hearts and the fornification and the adultery has been done before the kiss. Job made a covenant with his eyes not to look lustfully on women. (Job 31:1) Post Reply

It is a lustful action that if continued can lead into other acts of lust. Posted : 8 Nov, 2022 08:50 PM A better question would be.."is flirting with the opposite sex a sin of temptation to lust?"..the answer to that question would sharpen the edge of the question to where men & women would have to think more to come up with the answer..a similiar question would be.."can only women flirt with men?"..what is the word when men "flirt" with women..is one worse than the other? Posted : 22 Dec, 2022 09:00 AM Any murial interaction that is an expression of desire is fornication especially if it is physical. To put it differently, anything you do with someone that will rightfully make your hypothetical spouse angry and jealous is very likely fornication, the only difference is when you are married it is called adultery.
