"Women and Bikinis"

Recently, I had the audacity to send a lady on this site an email after noticing that she had just posted a picture of herself in a bikini. I will not argue the fact that the picture was very alluring, but something else bothered me. Why would a beautiful woman who claims to be a Born Again Christian display her body in such a manner on the internet for all the world to see?

I'm sorry, I find it offensive that a Christian woman who is looking for a husband would display her body in such a manner. I certainly would not want my future wife advertising herself this way. "As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion" (Proverbs 11:22).

Yet judging by her angry letter, perhaps I was wrong and the woman was right: "Not my fault men like you can't get past their own flesh."

So lets have your views ladies and gents on the subject of "Women and Bikinis" on a Christian dating site.

Blessings in Christ,

Paul

Below is my letter to her:

************************************************************************

You are a beautiful lady, but you have diminished your beauty with the display of your bathing suit picture. It contradicts everything in your profile: "As for me and my house we shall serve the Lord"

"that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel...which is proper for women professing godliness" (1 Timothy 2:9-10).

Blessings,

Paul

************************************************************************

Her response:

************************************************************************

Then don't view my profile

U R 20 years older than me U R way 2 old

Why would you even think of clicking onto my beach shot

Please with the holier than thou

Do U really think women read your blah blah blah novel profile

A whole lot of ridiculous nothing

No one would ever finish that in one sitting nor would want 2

Boring!

U R not clever or righteous by any means

Cast your stone somewhere else idiot truck driver & film maker

That is laughable

There is a reason U R single

I advise U get a dog for companionship

nothing worse than a jerk who spills out scripture with a bunch of nonsense and stupid icons

I am listed on more favorite lists than any other woman here

Perhaps it is your own lustful thoughts Exam your own perverted thoughts and convict yourself

God made my body and I work hard to maintain my good health

Only a man like you can take that and twist it into something impure

Repent and do not view my profile again

Do not respond

I am not interested in your foolishness

A true man of GOD can view my profile and find beauty only

Your thoughts go past my intent

You are disgusting for thinking such things of my pic

I do serve the lord and I spend a lot of time on that very beach with my pocket bible.

Not my fault men like you can't get past their own flesh

I would have to cover up so U don't get excited

That is your sin not mine fool

Again Exam your impure thought to a peaceful shot of me at the beach DON"T pervert an innocent pic

That is your mind not mine or real men of Christ

No other man on this site made your comment

The problem lies in your lustful eye So U R the Hypocrite

Best you gauge it out as scripture instructs so U can enter heaven

Good Luck I'm glad all the obese women who wear turtlenecks have a shot with you

HA I bet U would Never date an overweight girl

So Again Who's the HYPOCRITE

U

Don't look at my profile or pics "MY DEAR"

Move onto Large unattractive women who contact U b/c God told them 2 U cannot turn down a woman if she emails U even if U find her not appealing Make sure U listen to GOD now and date them Being that U only want a good heart yeh right!

Make sure U don't go to the beach U might end up in hell for having such perversion in your heart

Repent Quickly Repent Hypocrite

Thank you roeroe for the good advice to both men and women: "show a little discretion." . . . "But tell me what do you think Jesus would ask you?" . . . sobering thoughts.

Blessings,

Paul

sorry really 54....but what do I think Jesus would ask me??? can you elaborate. If I came down a little harsh...I apologize...I'm very passionate about certain things. I think this young woman was a little hurt and offended, but it may be time for her to just reflect on certain things. Just by the comment about heavy women...I know there's lots of growing to do. And the men flexing their bodies on the internet....I just don't get it...I feel there's got to be some insecurities with that. No one is perfect except the Lord.....But we shouldn't be hurting each other's feelings, we should be helping each other grow in Love....

Hi Roeroe... I want to assure you that there is absolutely nothing to apologize for. I was simply quoting phrases from your article that I thought made some good points and caused all of us, both men and women, to consider our manner of dress. Thank you for being so bold to share with us.

Blessings,

Paul

My opinion; she has some very serious self-esteem issues. What stood out to me the most was the lack of respect for other women on this site.

When she points out she has the most favorites, did she realize or go to think of why? Secondly, what do obese women have anything to do with the conversation?

You know my pastor once said-and this holds true-"When you attempt to help a sinner and they know they are guilty they will attack you instead of listening". Some Christians can not stand to be held accountable for their actions and yet, God commands us to hold each other accountable. We wonder why so often why we can not get people in church; that email explains a lot of why. We want our "cake" and eat it too. Gods' commandments were not multiple choice!

Women in Bikinis on a Christian Dating site was the posts heading.

I have read every post listed in reply pertaining to this post.

This post was not a question as to the appropriateness of bikini photos. What it actually was personal attack by one member on another member. Which is a far more inappropriate and obscene thing to be posted, on any dating website, especially one purported to a Christian dating website.

The quoted text of 1 Timothy 2:9-10 in the original message of distain for said photo to the woman who posted the bikini shot, is an inappropriate use of the text, and it is totally taken out of the context it was written, to whom it was written, and about what subject it was addressing.

The fiery reply is then held up for public ridicule, and to bolster the inappropriateness of the profiles photos.

The real issue here, is not the photos and the publishing of both messages.

The real issue, is that an opinion was formed, a judgement made, an offence taken, followed by inappropriate action, all based on one persons view of another persons behaviour, on what is now the smaller issue.

The response taken, is clearly unscriptural, unsound assessment, and a form of grandstanding.

There are mechanisms in place to make official complaints about another persons profile and/or behaviour. These were not activate or used, so how can one avoid the conclusion that this is nothing but a character assignation of one member by another.

Which highlights a more concerning problem than bikini photos.

One reply mentioned Mark 9:47:

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hellfire- NKJV

That does not work, plucking your eye out will not stop you lusting after a woman. I have a mate who has no eyes, they were both surgically removed years ago. There removal has not stopped him from struggling with the same issues as a sighted person.

2 Corinthians 10:5a is appropriate.

,bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

It is not the looking that is the problem, for there will be times when we are unexpectedly exposed to inappropriate images, it is the second look and the dwelling on the images that causes the problem.

In John 8:3-11, the account of the adulterous woman.

It has been stated, that the reason Jesus stooped down to wrote on the ground, was she was brought before Him naked. So He took action to avert His eyes from her, at the same time defuse the situation, and teach a lesson.

We are at a different walk with The Lord, and that was very rude to be so angry with him...for voicing his opinion....maybe you felt a little convicted...maybe not...but...it was wrong of you. and I do agree with him....If you read your bible check out where God says to dress modestly...and...I will tell you we don't need to show off our bodies to get a mans attention...nope...if that is all they are looking for then I wouldn't want them anyways...as there is so much more to me than body...Lord knows....although when married we can share with the one man from God...we are not to entice in such way...to give way to the fleshly temptations...working hard for that body doesn't matter...what really matters is how hard are you working for The Lord? no judgment here....just something to think about...

Thank you OneJourney for your words of wisdom . . ."If you read your bible check out where God says to dress modestly...and...I will tell you we don't need to show off our bodies to get a man's attention."
